Our First Day In California

We woke up and had breakfast at a cute little restaurant called The Maple then went to Lake Mendocino.

In the afternoon we drove around the valley looking at vineyards. We stopped at Rivino, Jericho, The Press Room, and Toad Hollow. After all that wine we grabbed a quick dinner and went back to the hotel to pass out.

Viva Las Vegas!

Rex has never been to Vegas so we stopped there on our way out west. We stayed at the Stratosphere and told them it was our honeymoon so they upgraded us to a badass room with a giant bathtub. Rex spent most of his time on the blackjack machine and I just watched. I'm not a big gambler so I grabbed a quarter and put it in the slot machine and immediately won. And then I won again. And then I won again! I was up to $30 and was totally happy with that so I cashed out.

New Mexico and Arizona

Today we drove through New Mexico and Arizona. It was such a beautiful drive through the painted desert. We made a quick stop at the Sierra Blanca Brewery in New Mexico. At sunset we pulled over and laid out a blanket and watched the sun go down together. It was extremely romantic and another thing to cross off my list.

And We're Off!

Today we started our journey out west. We drove all day across the beautiful state of Texas. We made it to the border and stopped in Clovis, New Mexico for the night.

Boys Will Be Boys

My husband is a child. This morning he decided to bring home a turtle from the bayou where we walk our dogs. I begged him to put him back but he wanted to play with it. I don't get it. Eventually he put him back after several attempts by the turtle to escape at no avail. Then he decided to lay out on the floor of the patio to get some sun. I guess getting dirty is his thing.

On the bright-side, he surprised me with a trip to California. A friend of his is moving up there and invited us to come out and see the sights. We never went on a honeymoon so we can kinda consider this a mini-moon five months late. Whatever. I'll take any excuse to get outta town. Since we're flying back we can't take the dogs with us (I wish we could). So I took Mya to my parents house tonight so they can watch her this week. I hate leaving her and saying goodbye. It makes me sad because I know she doesn't understand what's going on. I'm gonna miss her face so much.

It's a BOY!!

My friend Cristen had her gender reveal baby shower today in the woodlands. I had a hunch it was a little boy and I'm so glad I was right and it is! When I got there her daughter Denise ran up to me and hugged me so tightly as she screamed, "I love you, I love you! I thought I'd never see you again!" It was too cute!! I love this cute little family and I'm so happy for them. Can't wait to meet baby Caleb.

Baby Talk

Today we went to our friends house for some beers and barbecue. Last time we waited forever for food but luckily this time the food was ready when we got there. Chris had made a brisket and pork shoulder along with corn on the cob, beans, and potato salad. The wives sat around and chatted while the men played corn hole. I got to talking with one of the wives and she started talking about birthing rallies. I had never heard of such a thing so I asked a few questions and we got into a conversation about midwives. Apparently, she knows a few and invited me to a Facebook group so I could stay informed. The more I learn and talk about at home births the more I'm convinced that its for me.

Five on Friday

1. Babies. All I can think about is babies.

2. I need a vacation.

3. The weather had been perfect and I'm so excited for summer.

4. Things have been weird lately. Maybe it's just me. Who knows.

5. I feel like I need a new job. Somewhere I can get health insurance.

Pickin' Berries

We took the dogs on a walk today and along the way we discovered a berry bush next to a honeysuckle bush. So we stopped and drank honey and ate a few berries that were ripe. It was so sweet and delicious. It reminded me of when I used to pick berries behind my elementary school. I even kept telling Rex to watch for bugs.

Yummy honeysuckle

Mmmm, berries..
