Surgery Day

I woke up early to take Rex to the doctor.  They removed a tiny piece of metal from his hand that was embedded in his muscle. He goes back on Monday to have the stitches removed. So I get to play nurse and sponge bathe my hubby (lucky me).

Wedding Bells Are Ringing

My friend asked me to be a witness and take pictures at her JP Shotgun Wedding at the Courthouse. I am so happy for her!!

She is currently pregnant with their third child so I think it's time they make it legal. They have an epic love story, it's crazy. They've been in love since she was 14 and he was 17. Things got in the way but eventually they ended up together. True love waits. They are living proof.

In other less exciting news, I went to my parents house with the girls to visit my parents for awhile. My mom is in a sleep study tonight so I only hung out with her for like 30 minutes but I did eat dinner with my dad and watch TV.

I have to wake up extra early tomorrow to take Rex to surgery then go to work. Fun, fun. It doesn't get more exciting than that.

What I Ate Last Week: Week 1

Rex and I are attempting a raw diet. Again. This past week we focused on at least 50% raw. Baby steps.  I'm so proud of myself because I actually remembered to write it all down. I'm doing this so I can look back on it and reflect on what I should continue eating and what I should cut out completely.  The goal is to plan our meals together for the whole week on Sunday nights. It's all part of my master plan of becoming a good housewife. Wish me luck.

Monday:
breakfast- coffee, mango
lunch- ham sandwich, strawberries
dinner- steaks, grilled peppers, grilled tomatoes

Tuesday:
breakfast- coffee, egg/ham/cheese sandwich, strawberries
lunch- peppers with ranch
dinner- cheese enchiladas, rice, beans (Los Ramirez)

Wednesday:
breakfast- cereal
snack- orange
lunch- bison burger, fries, chocolate shake (Beyond Burger)
dinner- none

Thursday:
breakfast- oj, egg sandwich
lunch- salad (Olive Garden)
dinner- chicken pita (Jack)
snack- cereal

Friday:
breakfast- oj, eggs, bacon, strawberries
lunch- apple, mini peppers with ranch
dinner- shrimp, potatoes (Rowan's Birthday)

Saturday:
breakfast- coffee, egg sandwich
lunch- potatoes, sausage, pork rib (Mikeska's)
dinner- chicken, potato salad (Rocky Creek BBQ)
snack- cake, ice cream

Sunday:
breakfast- coffee, cherry kolache
lunch- turkey sandwiches (that's right, I had two)
snack- cookies (damn you, Katrina)
dinner- snack wrap (McDonald's. We were on the road home. I'm not proud of it.)

There you have it...

I eat like crap and desperately need new recipes. Especially breakfast. You can only eat so many egg sandwiches.

Note To Self: Bring Plenty Of Blankets When Camping In January

Sunday morning I woke up at 5:45 after going to sleep at 2:30. It was so damn cold. I had barely slept through the night because I was so cold. We had two small fleece blankets but that was not sufficient. When I woke up I was so angry that I took it out on Rex. I yelled at him for forcing me to sleep outside. I yelled at him for not doing anything to make sure I was warm and comfortable. I told him not to touch me and I left the tent.

Since I couldn't go back to sleep I decided to explore the property. As I walked around I reflected on what had just happened. I felt really bad for waking my husband up by yelling. I was really angry at myself for not bringing enough blankets but I took it out on him for some reason. I hate that I do that to him. I have my own mind and make my own choices and he didn't physically force me sleep with him in a mesh tent in 45* weather. I made that choice for myself and the only person I can be mad at is myself.

I went back to our tent and apologized. He was so sweet. He said, "feeling better after your walk, huh?" He knows me so well. We sealed it with a kiss and all was good again.

I went into my aunts house and discovered my sister asleep on the couch. Apparently, she also didn't sleep well. We sat and talked about our horrible night and how we immediately woke up and blamed our men when we woke up uncomfortable. It's funny how much we are alike. We attempted to make coffee. I say attempted because we had some coffee filter issues since they had the cone shaped filters but a normal coffee maker. The smell (and noise) must have woken up my aunt and uncle and they came out and showed us exactly how to McGyver their coffee filters. We all sat around the kitchen table and chatted while sipping coffee and eating delicious kolaches. Real fruit kolaches, not that pigs in a blanket BS Shipley's calls a kolache.

After everyone else woke up we spent the day riding around on the gator and having a great time. I discovered that I had the ability to take panoramic pictures with my phone so I took a bunch of those. Of course, Rex is better at it than me. He has a sturdy hand, I'm too shaky.

On our way home we stopped to visit Rex's cousin and her cute little puppy, Sadie. I wish we had more time to hang but it was just a quick visit this time. I loved their house. It was so cute. I wanted to take pictures of it but I'm sure they would have thought that was weird.

Thank goodness Rex drove because I was so tired from lack of sleep the night before. We got in the car and I fell asleep. Next thing I know I'm home in my comfy bed. It was a great trip. We will definitely be going back to camp there again. But better prepared.

A Weekend of Camping in Dripping Springs

We are celebrating my sisters birthday a few days early with a camping trip to my aunts house. She and her husband live on a 30 acre property which includes three dogs, three horses, two birds, two fish and one gator.

On the way there we stopped here:

Surfboard Makeover

Remember that beat-up surfboard our neighbor gave us?

Well, today Rex and I transformed it into art.

It was our first DIY project as husband and wife.

Here's how we did it...

First, tape it off using blue painter's tape.

 (I didn't take a picture of that)

Secondly, spray paint the blue and red areas.

Let it dry and spray paint a few more coats until it's even.

Lastly, peel away the blue tape and voila!

Texas Flag Surfboard

I love the way it turned out. It's perfect! So much better than before.
I'm excited to see what we do with the other two old boards we have..

Mya Bear

My second born pup. She is the sweetest dog ever. My parents got her from a friend when she was 8 weeks old. She was so small I could hold her in my hands. I had never had a dog that small before.

After about 8 months she started to get really big and chew stuff up so my parents wanted to get rid of her. I cried and begged them not to but my dad made an appointment to take her to the local pet shelter. There was no way I would ever let them take her from me. I was already attached.

So that next morning I begged my best friend to take her for a little while until I got my own place. Thank goodness he agreed. She lived with him for four months. Finally, I got my own apartment and we were together again.

I am forever thankful to you dear friend. Without you I wouldn't have my little lover that I love so much today. I owe you one.

He's so cute when he's quiet and reading about brewing beer.

The ER

This morning I took Rex to the ER to get a piece of porcelain removed from his knuckle. The X-ray showed it was in there but when the doctor tried to dig it out he couldn't find it. Hopefully it will magically heal on its own.

For lunch we tried a new place called Beyond Burger. It was similar to Fudruckers but with healthier options. I got the bison burger with a chocolate shake to drink. Bison is lean and high in protein and I hear its good. I ate it plain with lettuce and mustard and dipped it in ketchup. That burger was delicious, man. I definitely recommend this place. It's in Texas City right off the freeway by Mall of the Mainland.

Five Years Ago Today

Rex and I hung out for the first time. We had met a few times before but this was the first time I went to his house and actually spent time with him. Leah (our mutual friend who introduced us) came with me. His friend/co-worker Frank was there also. Rex's mom came out and asked me, "Are you here on behalf of Frank?". Haha. It was too funny. Leah and I still laugh about it to this day.

I'll never forget the day. I was sitting on Rex's bed petting Otis when all of a sudden he started humping me (the dog, not Rex)! I was so grossed out I ran out of the room screaming. Rex said he only humps pretty girls. I was grossed out yet flattered. Who knew I would end up marrying that guy. Funny how life works. I love my husband and I love the life we have together.

This morning we woke up and had egg sandwiches with strawberries and coffee. It was delicious.

After that we went and got our cars inspected. For dinner we went to Los Ramirez. It was a good day.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Means no work for us today. In the morning we took the dogs on a good long walk. We let them off the leash to run like we always do. For some reason there was a bitchy lady around who asked me to put my dogs on a leash. I couldn't believe it. I have two very well trained dogs that would never hurt anyone. They were not bothering her at all. It just really pissed me of. After that I made sandwiches for lunch and watched some tv. A few friends came over to hang out. Emma dug her head into Bob's lap to get him to let her on the couch. She's sneaky like that.

Brunch at the Yacht Club & My Grandma's Birthday!

This morning we met my parents for brunch at the Lakewood Yacht Club. They have an amazing Sunday brunch with a fantastic view. Rex had never been so he was in for a real treat. They have the biggest and best selection of all types of foods. Tons of fresh fruits and veggies, shrimp, oysters, roast beef, chicken and delicious desserts. They can pretty much make you whatever you want. There's an omelet station where you could get waffles or pancakes made with whipped cream and fruit to top it off. Mmmm.  It was awesome!

Our view of the marina during brunch.. It was a beautiful day!

He's a total goober... but I love him.

After brunch we went to Home Depot and Walmart to get a few things.

I snapped this pic in the parking lot as the sun was setting.

Later that night we celebrated my grandma's birthday with cake and ice cream.

.

Of course Coleton had to help blow out the candles.

Happy birthday grandma!! I hope you had a good day! I love you so much!

In Memory of Aunt Lilly.

Today is her 55th birthday.

We all miss her so, so much.

My uncle and cousin are in town so they came down to Clear Lake to meet us for dinner at Red Lobster to celebrate my aunt's birthday. We talked about the good times and our favorite memories of her.

I love you so much Aunt Lilly and I wish more than anything that you were still here with us.
I wish you could have been at my wedding and made my cake. I
wish you were around to one day see my children.

After dinner we went shopping for the little ones at ToysRUs.

Look What Our Neighbor Brought Over

We heard a knock at the door. We weren't expecting anyone so it was weird. Turns out it was our neighbor, Darren. He was moving out and gave us his Aloe Vera plant and this old beat-up surfboard.

This is the third time someone has given us their old surfboard. We're starting to accumulate quite a little collection.
When I got home from work this is how I found these lovers..

It was so funny I had to take a picture.

She has the sweetest little face when she's sleeping..

Rex hid a penny in Mya's paw for some reason..

I have no idea why but it was funny.

My Night With Coleton-James

He is hilarious! I had so much fun with my favorite little man tonight.

We picked grapefruits and oranges at my grandma's house.

My Uncle Kenny pulled the grapefruits from the trees..

While Coleton waited for them to fall..

After spaghetti dinner we ate a few of the oranges! They were really juicy and delicious. I took a few home to show Rex.

While in the garage, I discovered an old prosthetic leg. It had belonged to my biological grandfather. My grandma had kept it in hopes to one day give  it to someone who needs it.

I hung out with Coleton for a little longer and played cars with him. He is so cute and creative. He makes up funny songs that he sings while he's playing. I love how children use their imagination when they're playing.

We also read one of my favorite books, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. He loved the way I read it so much that he made me re-read it at least three times. It's moments like that one that makes me wish I had little ones. When I do have a kid (one day) I hope it's funny and talkative like little Coleton.
